Doc Talk Podcast Goes Live With Director Poh Si Teng And Physicians Of ‘American Doctor’

Deadline · 4 hours ago

Deadline's Doc Talk podcast held a live special edition at the American Cinematheque's Friend of the Fest 2026 festival in Los Angeles, featuring director Poh Si Teng and three American physicians who feature in her documentary American Doctor. The film follows US doctors who volunteered to treat injured children in Gaza hospitals, and the episode matters because it brings together medical professionals from Jewish, Palestinian and Pakistani/Zoroastrian backgrounds who each independently accuse Israel of genocide following its military response to the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack.

The panel included Dr Mark Perlmutter, an orthopaedic surgeon who described child deaths in Gaza as "the worst pediatric homicide" he has witnessed, alongside Dr Thaer Ahmad and Dr Feroze Sidhwa. Discussion topics included the toll on healthcare workers in Gaza (at least 1,700 killed since October 2023, per Palestinian statistics), the case of five-year-old Hind Rajab, Israel's refusal to let Ahmad return to Gaza, and a shift in some conservative US political circles' reception of the doctors' accounts. The episode, hosted by John Ridley and Matt Carey, is a Deadline and Nō Studios production available on Spotify, iHeart and Apple Podcasts.
