Dolly Parton Left Behind a Secret Song Locked Away Until 2045

Consequence · 12 hours ago

Dolly Parton recorded an unreleased song and placed it in a locked “Dream Box” at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort, where it is not due to be opened until 2045. Her reported death at 80 gives the project added significance, ensuring that the recording will become a posthumous release nearly two decades from now.

The box was prepared for the resort’s 2015 opening and also contains personal items, including material from Parton’s childhood home and a tribute to her uncle and musical mentor Bill Owens. Dollywood says the song reflects her hopes for the future; Parton later joked that leaving a good song unheard had troubled her, and included instructions for playing the CD should the format become obsolete.

  • Parton’s unreleased song is locked away until 2045.
  • The recording was intended as a message of hope.
