Dolly Parton musical to open on Broadway in January 2027

The Hollywood Reporter · 13 hours ago

Dolly Parton's life-and-career musical, now titled *Dolly: A True Original Musical*, is heading to Broadway this winter. It will begin previews at the St. James Theatre on 7 December, with an opening night set for 19 January 2027 — a date that also marks Parton's 81st birthday. The production follows the show's July 2025 premiere in Nashville, and represents a high-profile return to Broadway for one of country music's most celebrated figures.

The musical features Parton's best-known songs, including "I Will Always Love You", "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors" and "9 to 5", alongside newly written material. Parton co-wrote the book with Maria S. Schlatter, and Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher directs. Casting is yet to be announced, though in Nashville three actors — Carrie St. Louis, Katie Rose Clarke and Quinn Titcomb — portrayed Parton at different life stages. Producers say they have reworked the show since Nashville, and it will take over the St. James Theatre following the closure of *Titanique* in September.
