The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is replacing Dolly Parton's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after it was vandalised, just a week after the country music icon's death at the age of 80. Photos and videos circulating on social media showed dark markings scratched across her name, with one witness saying a woman had kicked over candles left as tributes and used broken shards to scratch the star, while flowers laid in her memory were later stolen. The incident has caused distress among fans who continue to visit the site to pay their respects.

A spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said repairs to the star, located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, had already been scheduled before the vandalism occurred, owing to pre-existing cracks. The Hollywood Historic Trust confirmed a new star would be unveiled on Friday. Parton received her star in 1984 and died in Nashville following a brief battle with cancer, prompting tributes from figures including Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Reba McEntire.
