Dolly Parton's long-awaited Broadway musical will open at the St. James Theater in New York City on January 19, 2027, marking the entertainment legend's 81st birthday. Previews are set to begin on December 7, 2026. The musical, titled 'Dolly: A True Original Musical,' will showcase Parton's most recognizable songs including 'Jolene,' 'I Will Always Love You,' and '9 to 5,' alongside newly written material created specifically for the stage production.

Parton announced the project in June 2024 and has been collaborating with book writer Maria Schlatter to develop the narrative. Director Bartlett Sher, a nine-time Tony nominee and 2008 recipient of the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, is leading the production. The musical benefited from an earlier engagement at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville, which received favorable reviews from audiences. Parton indicated the team spent considerable time revising and reworking the show before bringing it to Broadway, though the cast has not yet been announced.
