## Key points

- Trump blamed Fox News for Republican midterm losses.
- Democrats made significant gains in Republican strongholds.
- Fox defended its polling as close to the results.

## Summary

Donald Trump blamed Fox News for Republican losses in the US midterm elections, accusing the channel of giving too much airtime to Democratic critics. His remarks came as Democrats made major gains in traditionally Republican areas, pointing to voter dissatisfaction with his administration and potentially weakening his influence as attention shifts to the 2028 presidential race.

Trump said Fox’s coverage of Democrats, including former New York mayor Bill de Blasio, contributed to the defeats and claimed the network’s ratings had fallen because it was “against” him. He later called in to Fox to accept the results and congratulate Democrats, while criticising its polling; presenter Bret Baier said the results were close to the channel’s forecasts. The reported results included Kansas electing its first Democratic senator since the Great Depression and Democrats winning a Senate seat in Texas and defeating Governor Greg Abbott.
