Dr Garry Hunt talks to us about the astonishing Voyager probes
The Voyager probes, launched in 1977 to study the outer planets, are still operating almost half a century later. British astrophysicist Dr Garry Hunt, the only UK member of their eight-person imaging team, discusses the mission and his work in a podcast interview.
The planets’ rare alignment offered a route to visit them using less fuel, and NASA selected ten instruments for the spacecraft. Hunt was chosen from nearly a thousand proposed candidates to represent atmospheric physics, studying the planets’ weather and physical processes. The interview also covers the mission’s future and the state of science in the UK, US and elsewhere.
