The United Rugby Championship is the top professional rugby competition in the British Isles and Ireland, featuring teams from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy. Matches between teams from the same country are known as derbies and are considered particularly important due to local rivalry.
Dragons and Scarlets are two of Wales's four professional rugby teams. Their matches are among the most intense derbies in rugby, with fans and observers treating them as significant events beyond the points at stake in the league table.
Both teams were early in their season, with Dragons having started with a draw. Victories in derby matches carry extra significance for Welsh teams, both for league points and for the local pride and rivalry that makes these fixtures special to supporters.
