Two further people were injured at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, prompting rescue operations only days after a teenager was hurt during an illegal cliff jump. The incidents underline continuing safety concerns at the popular coastal viewpoint, where visitors continue to enter hazardous water and jump from rock ledges despite warnings.

The earlier incident involved a 17-year-old who struck a rock ledge before landing in the sea and was taken to hospital with a leg injury. At least six bystanders entered the water to help him before lifeguards arrived. San Diego rules prohibit jumping or diving into the Pacific from land-connected points more than five feet above the water, and officials warn that falls can cause paralysis, drowning or death.
