The first Broadway revival of Dreamgirls has been postponed and will no longer open in autumn 2026 as originally planned. Producers say the production, directed and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, is still going ahead, but its theatre, dates and cast have yet to be confirmed; the delay matters because it postpones the return of a major musical that has not been revived on Broadway since its original run.

Dreamgirls, with book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, premiered in 1981 and helped launch Jennifer Holliday’s career. Jennifer Hudson, who won an Oscar for playing Effie White in the 2006 film adaptation, joined the producing team in February; the musical follows a fictional Chicago girl group whose rise reflects elements of the Supremes’ story.
