Drew Starkey declined to confirm reports that he may play Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s forthcoming American Psycho adaptation, but said he had read the script and called it “amazing”. His comments have heightened interest in the casting of a new version of Bret Easton Ellis’s novel, which will inevitably be compared with the 2000 film led by Christian Bale.

Guadagnino is directing the Lionsgate project from a script by Scott Z. Burns, with the adaptation first announced in 2024. Ellis has said several prominent actors rejected the Bateman role and that Burns subsequently produced a new draft; he has also said the film will differ substantially from Mary Harron’s earlier adaptation.
