A graduate student at the University of South Florida has developed a piece of "smart" jewellery designed to detect when a drink has been spiked with dangerous substances. Addison Bounds, 22, a former USF beach volleyball player, co-founded the brand Elora Armor to produce the safety-focused accessories, which use a built-in sensor that reacts when exposed to a sample of a drink. The product aims to give wearers a discreet, wearable way to check their drinks for drugs while out socialising, addressing ongoing concerns about drink-spiking incidents.

The Elora Armor range is planned to include bracelets, pendants and keychains, each fitted with the same detection sensor, giving users several style options for carrying the technology. The company was co-founded by Bounds alongside collaborators while she was a student, and the jewellery is intended to let a wearer test their drink quickly and discreetly by applying a small sample to the sensor.
