A drone carrying an explosive device was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany, prompting the temporary closure of both runways and the diversion of several flights, including a passenger plane. An airport employee spotted the drone near the south runway, and a bomb-disposal robot was deployed to remove the detonator. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the incident as representing "a new quality of danger" and a "hybrid attack scenario", though no perpetrators have yet been identified.

The incident occurred on 5-6 August 2026 at the airport near Schkeuditz, a major freight hub. A second flying object reportedly collided with a freight aircraft that had to abort its landing, causing slight damage. Dobrindt noted that while drone sightings near airports are not new, one armed with explosives marks an unprecedented threat. The discovery follows a 2024 incendiary device attack at the same airport suspected to involve Russian intelligence, part of a broader pattern of incidents across Europe that Western officials have attributed to Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.
