YouTube essayist Majuular has released a four-and-a-half-hour documentary about Ultima Online, after six months of work. The film is presented as a likely penultimate entry in his multi-year retrospective of the Ultima series, examining how the game helped shape the massively multiplayer online role-playing genre.

The documentary covers the project’s development, including Richard Garriott and Starr Long’s ambitions, Raph Koster’s influence, competition from other games and Ultima Online’s lasting impact. The game remains playable on official and fan-run servers, including In Mani Ylem, which aims to recreate the late-1990s experience; Majuular’s wider series has attracted more than 200,000 followers.
