Actor John Schneider has revealed that he lied about his age to land the role of Bo Duke in "The Dukes of Hazzard," a case of youthful deception that helped launch one of television's most iconic careers. Schneider, from New York, was only 18 when he auditioned for the part, but persuaded producers he was several years older in order to be considered for the role that would make him a household name.

According to the actor, he convinced casting bosses he was 24 rather than 18, securing a part that required a more mature, established screen presence. The admission came during an interview in which Schneider also discussed his pride at being invited to perform for the White House to mark America's 250th anniversary.
