## Key points

- Chani appears to join the plot against Paul.
- The film expands the time jump to 19 years.
- *Dune: Part Three* is due on 18 December 2026.

## Summary

The latest trailer suggests Chani will take a more active role in *Dune: Part Three*, including involvement in an assassination plot against Paul. This points to a sharper personal conflict than in Frank Herbert’s *Dune Messiah*, where Chani is Paul’s loyal partner, and could give the film’s political scheming a stronger emotional focus.

The film extends the gap after the previous story to 19 years, compared with 12 in the novel, with Paul ruling as Padishah Emperor over thousands of worlds. The trailer shows him using the Voice to question Princess Irulan, while also hinting at an illness, Duncan Idaho’s return and Robert Pattinson’s Scytale plotting against the Atreides. The film is due in cinemas on 18 December 2026.
