Waymo robotaxi enters Denver farmers’ market, alarming vendors and shoppers
A driverless Waymo robotaxi unexpectedly entered Denver’s South Pearl Street Farmers Market on Sunday morning, startling vendors and shoppers. The vehicle travelled slowly through the market, stopped briefly after detecting people, then safely left without causing damage or injuries, although organisers expressed concern about public safety.
The car entered while vendors were setting up and barricades had been moved aside, apparently following a vendor through an open access route. Around 160 vendors were present, and organisers warned people as the vehicle passed; Waymo said it quickly recognised the situation and manoeuvred away. Waymo launched its Denver service on 1 September, after a separate August crash involving one of its vehicles was attributed by police to other cars.
