## Key points

- Fangio says the Giants got a “steal” in J.J. McCarthy.
- McCarthy has thrown for 495 yards in six quarters with New York.
- The Giants are 4-2-1 after an overtime win over Houston.

## Summary

Vic Fangio, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, called the Giants’ trade for quarterback J.J. McCarthy a “steal” ahead of Sunday’s game. His praise reflects how quickly McCarthy has settled in and the potential value of acquiring a former first-round pick for a fifth-round selection, though it is too early to judge the deal.

In six quarters with New York, McCarthy has completed 31 of 49 passes for 495 yards and one touchdown. He led the Giants to a 27-21 overtime win over Houston, completing 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards; the team is 4-2-1 and could contend for its first division title since 2011 if he maintains that form. Fangio also praised the Giants’ receivers, tight ends and running backs, and said the offence blends elements associated with Baltimore and Kansas City.
