Boxer Rosie Eccles and lawn bowler Daniel Salmon have been named as Team Wales' flag and baton bearers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Both are reigning champions from the Birmingham 2022 Games, and the honour recognises their status as leading figures and ambassadors for Welsh sport ahead of the ceremony at the Hydro. The announcement came as a surprise to both athletes, delivered personally by Team Wales chef de mission Gethin Jones.

Eccles, from Caldicot, is competing at her third and final Games, having won silver in 2018 and gold in 2022, and will carry the flag on the day of her 30th birthday. Salmon, from Cardiff, turned 32 the day before the announcement and will bid for a third consecutive men's pairs bowls gold alongside partner Ross Owen, having already won in 2018 and 2022. The pair join Paralympic athlete Olivia Breen, previously announced as team captain, in leading Wales' presence at the ceremony on Thursday night.
