Ed Sheeran has agreed to sign with Interscope Records, ending his 15-year tenure with Warner Music Group following the expiration of his contract earlier this year. The move transfers him to Universal Music Group, the world's largest major label, though the specific terms and album commitment remain undisclosed. Sheeran characterised the change as a natural shift in priorities rather than a dispute, noting his evolution from a teenager signing with the company to a father of two seeking a different professional approach.

Sheeran established himself as one of pop's most commercially successful singer-songwriters during his Warner years, delivering four Number One albums and multiple platinum hits including "Shape of You" and "Perfect." However, his recent releases have not sustained that momentum—neither his 2021 album Subtract, nor 2023's Autumn Variations or most recent Play achieved platinum certification, with Play peaking at Number Five on the Billboard 200 before quickly exiting the chart. Both Warner and Sheeran issued supportive public statements regarding the transition.
