## Key points

- Noel Gallagher criticised the idea of Ed Sheeran headlining Wembley.
- He called Sheeran’s polished pop sound “not subversive”.
- Sheeran has since appeared at Wembley about a dozen times.

## Summary

Noel Gallagher said in 2015 that he could not accept the idea of Ed Sheeran headlining Wembley Stadium, criticising his polished pop sound as not subversive. The remark reflects Gallagher’s dislike of mainstream pop and his blunt opinions about artists he considers undeserving of acclaim.

The article notes that Sheeran has since appeared at Wembley about a dozen times, suggesting Gallagher’s criticism has not dented his ability to draw audiences. It also contrasts the brothers’ outspoken views with Oasis’s own success filling stadiums, and questions why Gallagher took issue with Sheeran’s bookings.
