Eddie Vedder joined Markéta Irglová and members of The Frames to perform "The Song of Good Hope" at Glen Hansard's funeral in Dublin on Tuesday, in tribute to the Irish musician who died on 29 July following a motorcycle crash near the city, aged 56. Also honouring Hansard at the service was Bono, who delivered a spoken-word rendition of U2's "Beautiful Day" and played mourners a voicemail message from Patti Smith, reflecting the breadth of musical tributes paid to him.
Vedder and Hansard had collaborated for more than 15 years: Hansard regularly opened for Pearl Jam, contributed to Vedder's 2011 solo album Ukulele Songs and the 2021 film Flag Day, and played in Vedder's touring band The Earthlings in 2022, with Vedder's daughter Olivia calling him "an uncle, collaborator, friend, bonus dad, and favourite singer."
