## Key points

- Wright says Spaced’s new restoration was unauthorised.
- The 4K Blu-ray is scheduled for February 2027.
- The release is promoted as using AI-assisted upscaling.

## Summary

Edgar Wright has condemned an unauthorised AI-assisted 4K restoration of Spaced, saying he and the sitcom’s creative team were not consulted about the planned Blu-ray release. The dispute matters because Wright says the team had been closely involved in earlier home entertainment editions and he had been pushing for a new Blu-ray for years.

The collection is scheduled for release on 9 February 2027 and is promoted as an upgraded version using traditional restoration methods alongside algorithmic corrections and AI-assisted upscaling. Wright said he was disheartened to learn of the project and that he was still trying to find out what had happened; the article gives no response from the release’s producers.
