## Summary

The latest confirmed toll from Sunday’s train collision in Egypt is at least seven people dead and more than 100 injured. President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has ordered an investigation and called for anyone found negligent to be held accountable.

One train struck the rear of another in Giza province, about 52 kilometres south of Cairo, causing a derailment and overturning several carriages. Authorities sent 52 ambulances, while crews worked to clear the line; the cause was not immediately known. The crash occurred near the site of Egypt’s 2002 train fire, which killed more than 370 people, amid continuing efforts to improve safety on the ageing rail network.
