Eight killed in plane crash at remote Alaskan military site, air force says

BBC World · 3 hours ago

A civilian-contracted aircraft crashed near a remote US Air Force radar site in Alaska on Thursday, killing all eight people on board. The military confirmed there were no survivors after rescuers reached the site near Cape Newenham, on Alaska's south-west coast, and an investigation into the cause is now under way.

The plane had departed Anchorage International Airport, roughly 450 miles away, bound for the Cape Newenham site, part of the Alaska Radar System that monitors aircraft in Alaskan airspace. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, two pilots and six passengers were aboard; their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin. Lt Gen Robert Davis of US Air Force Alaskan Command described the victims as "dedicated professionals" and thanked search and recovery teams for their swift response.
