## Key points

- Westlake parents hired investigators over alleged football recruiting.
- They plan to ask the CIF Southern Section to investigate.
- The team is 7-3 and has reached the playoffs.

## Summary

A group of parents at Westlake High School in Thousand Oaks say they have hired a private investigator to examine alleged recruiting and undue influence involving the football programme. Their letter to the school raises questions about whether players from neighbouring schools were encouraged to transfer for football, and whether inducements or inaccurate residency and enrolment information were involved. The allegations matter because California rules prohibit public schools from influencing a student’s enrolment or transfer for athletic reasons.

The parents said they are preparing to ask the CIF Southern Section to investigate, including alleged conduct involving head coach Rick Clausen; the claims have not been established, and the school had not responded to a request for comment. Westlake is 7-3 this season and has reached the playoffs. Clausen led the team to a 10-1 record in his first season in 2025, after it went 0-10 the year before; the parents’ move has also drawn criticism from people who question whether playing time disputes are behind it.
