Netflix Brazil has released the trailer for Elize: Shadows of a Woman, an original film dramatising the real-life case of Elize Matsunaga, who murdered and dismembered her husband in the couple's São Paulo apartment in 2012. The case attracted intense media coverage and shocked Brazil, making the project a high-profile addition to Netflix's slate of true-crime content. The film is scheduled to premiere on the platform on 22 July.

Lorena Comparato stars as Matsunaga, alongside a cast including Henrique Kimura, Miwa Yanagizawa, Julia Shimura and Denise Weinberg. It is directed by Felipe Vellas, known for the Brazilian crime drama Criminal Code, and written by Raphael Montes and Mariana Torres, both of Good Morning, Verônica. The producers said they wanted to explore the woman's duality and prompt reflection on what drives violence. The feature comes from Boutique Filmes, which also made the existing Netflix documentary series Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon a Crime.
