Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" has reached No. 1 on the UK's Official Singles Chart, giving the American country star her first UK chart-topper and ending Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's record-breaking run with "Rein Me In". The change matters because it caps an unusually gradual rise for Langley's track and closes out a historic reign for its predecessor, which remains the longest-running UK No. 1 single ever.

"Choosin' Texas" debuted at No. 78 in January and climbed steadily, reaching the top 40 in February, the top 20 in April, the top 10 in July and No. 3 in August, before topping the chart eight months after release. "Rein Me In" falls to No. 7 after spending 23 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, extending its lead over Frankie Laine's 1953 record of 18 weeks. Langley's single is also dominating in America, having spent 20 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, the first non-Christmas song to do so. Elsewhere in the chart, Sienna Spiro rises to No. 2 and the late Dolly Parton places three songs in the top 10 simultaneously for the first time following her death on 25 August.
