Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is expected to join Spanish side Valencia on a season-long loan, with the deal dependent on finalising a wage-sharing arrangement between the two clubs before La Liga's transfer window shuts. The move follows a difficult loan spell at Aston Villa last season, where the 23-year-old made just one Premier League start, and comes after he was left out of Liverpool's first two Premier League squads this season despite featuring regularly in pre-season under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Valencia, who finished ninth in La Liga last season without qualifying for Europe, want Liverpool to cover half of Elliott's wages, though the precise split has yet to be confirmed, and there is no buy option or obligation attached to the loan. Elliott, who joined Liverpool from Fulham as a 16-year-old in 2019 and previously had a Championship loan at Blackburn Rovers, still has yet to undergo a medical, with the deal needing to be completed before La Liga's window closes at 23:00 BST on Tuesday. His Liverpool contract runs until 2028. Separately, Liverpool teammate Stefan Bajcetic has completed a permanent move to his boyhood club Celta Vigo.
