Elon Musk has claimed that his company's AI chatbot, Grok, will produce a full-length film of Homer's Odyssey by the end of the year that is more "historically accurate" than Christopher Nolan's blockbuster adaptation, currently one of the year's biggest box-office successes. The remark followed a viral social media post in which a user asked Grok to generate a "correct" trailer for the story, and it plays into a wider online backlash against Nolan's film, much of which has focused on its casting of Black and trans actors.

Musk's pledge came after Grok produced an AI-generated clip depicting a scene between Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy and actress Daisy Ridley, compressing the 24-book epic into rapid, disjointed frames. Scholars note that no single "historically accurate" version of the Odyssey can really exist, since the poem originated as an oral tradition later written down, meaning every adaptation, including Nolan's, is inherently an interpretation. Musk's five-month timeline also raises an irony: any AI-generated version would likely draw heavily on existing footage, including Nolan's own film, given how generative AI models are trained.
