Elon Musk Is Expected to Point His Money Machine at Texas
Elon Musk is expected to spend between $100 million and $200 million to boost Republican candidates in November's US midterms, with a particular focus on voter turnout in Texas, according to Trump officials briefed on the matter. The spending would be a significant boost for Senate nominee Ken Paxton, who has been badly outraised by Democratic opponent James Talarico and could determine which party controls the Senate. Neither of the two largest national GOP funding bodies has yet committed money to Paxton's campaign, leaving Musk's potential contribution as a crucial gap-filler.
FEC filings show Talarico has raised roughly $69 million compared with Paxton's $9 million, despite Paxton winning a bruising primary against Senator John Cornyn with Donald Trump's backing. Musk's America PAC has reportedly been authorised to spend at least $100 million on the 2026 midterms, adding to the RNC's $128 million war chest, while the Democratic National Committee is $2 million in debt. However, Musk's record on voter turnout operations is mixed: in 2024, America PAC paid canvassing firms over $46 million, but Trump officials were unconvinced this drove his battleground state sweep, and the operation also drew complaints from workers over pay and quotas.

- Texas Senate race, where Paxton trails in fundraising, is a key focus
- Musk's 2024 turnout operation had mixed results and worker complaints
