The nominations for the 2026 Emmy Awards have been announced, with the HBO Max medical drama The Pitt leading the field with 25 nominations. The comedy Hacks followed closely with 24 nods — a single-year record for a comedy series — while newcomer Widow's Bay led all new shows with 19. HBO Max dominated overall, securing 122 nominations across all networks and platforms.
Other strong performers included Pluribus (18), Beef (16), DTF St. Louis (13), and both Saturday Night Live and Spider-Noir with 11 apiece. Past winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller unveiled the nominees at the TV Academy's Saban Media Center, with the Academy opting to reveal all names on 8 July rather than in two batches, to better suit campaign schedules. Mariska Hargitay — herself nominated for her documentary My Mom Jayne — will host the ceremony, which airs live on NBC and Peacock on Monday 14 September, with the Creative Arts Emmys held on 5 and 6 September.

The Emmys are the top US television awards, handed out each year by the Television Academy to recognise the best in scripted and unscripted TV. Nominations mark the first stage of the process, shortlisting shows and performers across dozens of categories, with winners announced later at a live ceremony.
This year's nominations reflect a shifting TV landscape, with streaming platforms increasingly competing alongside traditional broadcast and cable networks. HBO Max, the streaming service that grew out of HBO, has emerged as a major force, with several of its shows, including medical drama The Pitt and comedy Hacks, among the most nominated titles.
The nominees announcement is a closely watched moment in the entertainment industry because it shapes the campaigning and publicity that shows and networks undertake ahead of the actual awards ceremony, and it offers an early signal of which programmes and performers the industry's voters currently rate most highly.
