## Key points

- Freedom says the WNBA ruled him ineligible to play.
- He says security turned him away from a Finals game.
- He wants clear, consistent eligibility rules.

## Summary

Enes Kanter Freedom says the WNBA has ruled him ineligible to play, with Commissioner Cathy Engelbert telling Congress that he and another person named in a letter are men. He argues the league has not explained what standards it uses to define eligibility for women’s basketball, a question he says matters to fair and consistent competition.

Freedom also says he was denied access to courtside seats he had bought for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals in Atlanta and was offered entry to a private suite instead; after refusing, he says security turned him away. He says he is seeking the chance to play under the league’s rules, while the WNBA has reportedly formed a task force to examine eligibility policy. The article presents Freedom’s account and criticism; it does not include a response from the league.
