England’s Jordan in contention at Alfred Dunhill Links

BBC Sport ·

England’s Matthew Jordan is two shots behind leader Casey Jarvis before the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, putting himself in contention for his first DP World Tour win. Jordan said he had wanted to give himself a genuine chance to win after feeling in recent months that he was often too far back.

Jordan shot a six-under-par 66 at Kingsbarns to reach 16 under. Jarvis leads on 18 under after a bogey-free 65 at St Andrews, while Poland’s Adrian Meronk is level with Jordan after a nine-under 63 and Belgium’s Thomas Detry is one shot further back. Jordan was runner-up at the Nexo Championship in August and won the St Andrews Links Trophy as an amateur in 2017.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a professional golf tournament on the DP World Tour, played across courses in Scotland including St Andrews and Kingsbarns. Players compete over several rounds, with the lowest total score winning.

Matthew Jordan is an English golfer who grew up in nearby Hoylake and won the St Andrews Links Trophy as an amateur in 2017. A DP World Tour win would be his first, following a runner-up finish at the Nexo Championship in August.

The tournament brings together players from different countries and is staged on historic links courses, where wind and firm ground can affect play. Its result matters to players’ tour records and careers, as well as to golf fans following the season.
