Entropy, a deliciously miserable Final Fantasy-esque RPG where your party members can permanently die, is now out in early access

Rock Paper Shotgun · 1 hour ago

Entropy, a turn-based post-apocalyptic role-playing game from developer Lovely Hellplace, has launched into early access. The studio previously made Dread Delusion, and Entropy follows in a similarly dark, imaginative vein, drawing comparisons to classic Final Fantasy games while adding permanent character death in the style of XCOM, meaning players must carefully manage their mercenary party to avoid losing them for good.

Set in a decaying world doomed not by a single cataclysm but by the slow passage of time and unexplained infertility, the game begins with a theatre performance interrupted by a demon attack, sending players on a journey towards hell itself. This early access release contains the entire first act, said to be roughly a quarter of the full game, featuring two towns, three dungeons and numerous smaller locations, along with characters, weapons, armour and spells to collect. The developers expect early access to last around a year while two further acts are added, and a demo is available for those wanting to try before buying on Steam.

  • Entropy, a grim turn-based RPG, has entered early access on Steam
  • Party members can permanently die, XCOM-style, during battles
  • Early access covers act one of three; full release expected in about a year
