Evan Rachel Wood “Sad” About Not Returning For ‘Practical Magic 2’: “It Seems Like They’re Not Following The Book”

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Actor Evan Rachel Wood has said she is "sad" not to be reprising her role in Practical Magic 2, the sequel to the 1998 hit starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of The Shards, Wood said the cast had bonded closely as children and that missing the chance to reunite as adults was a loss, particularly for fans of the original film.

Wood played Kylie Owens, Bullock's eldest daughter, in the original, but the role has been recast with Joey King for the sequel. Wood said she had read The Book of Magic, the Alice Hoffman novel the new film is based on, and felt the story would have justified her return, but that the production's approach diverged from the book. She had previously said publicly that she was never asked back despite offering to appear even briefly, and was told the role was being recast; the sequel, which also recasts Sally's daughter Antonia with Maisie Williams, is due for release on 11 September.
