‘Every Year After’ Star Joseph Chiu on Season One Reception and Hopes for Next Season
Joseph Chiu says he was delighted when Prime Video renewed romance drama Every Year After for a second season, following a positive response to its first series. The renewal matters because it confirms the adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novels will continue, while giving Chiu scope to further develop Jordie Lin beyond the character’s relatively limited role in the books.
Chiu, 24, plays Jordie, best friend to Matt Cornett’s lead character Sam, and drew inspiration from Teen Wolf’s Stiles for the role’s energetic best-friend dynamic. He booked the part shortly after graduating from university, making it his first series-regular role and his first job requiring travel outside his usual Toronto and Hamilton productions; he had also briefly trained as a K-pop performer at 14. The second season is expected to follow Fortune’s follow-up novel, Our Golden Summer.
