‘Everyone wants clarity’ over Man City charges, says Arsenal chief

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Arsenal's chief executive, Richard Garlick, has said clubs across the Premier League "want clarity" over the long-running Manchester City financial fair play case, which has yet to be resolved more than three and a half years after City were first charged. An independent commission has still not published its verdict, despite the disciplinary hearing concluding over 18 months ago, prompting frustration among rival clubs and adding pressure on the Premier League to speed up such processes. City deny all wrongdoing.

The charges against City span more than 100 alleged breaches, including failing to provide accurate financial information between 2009-10 and 2017-18, breaching UEFA's financial fair play rules, and breaching the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules, as well as allegedly failing to co-operate with the investigation. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have reportedly reserved the right to seek compensation running into the hundreds of millions of pounds should City be found guilty, a precedent bolstered by Everton being ordered to pay Burnley £35m over a separate rules breach. The Premier League spent £45m on related legal costs in the 2023-24 season alone, and chief executive Richard Masters has acknowledged the process is taking longer than expected but insisted it must run its course.
