Deadline · 4 hours ago

Deadline has published a round-up of everything known so far about "Children of Blood and Bone," Gina Prince-Bythewood's film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's young adult fantasy novel, as its January 2027 cinema release draws closer. The film boasts a heavyweight ensemble cast and has just released its first trailer, generating fresh anticipation ahead of the new year's early theatrical slate.

The adaptation is set for release on 15 January 2027 and stars Thuso Mbedu as protagonist Zélie, alongside Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Lashana Lynch, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Regina King, among others. The story, drawn from African mythology, follows Zélie's quest to restore banished magic to the kingdom of Orïsha after it was purged by King Saran. Adeyemi co-wrote the screenplay with Prince-Bythewood but has said she will not watch the finished film, describing the experience of being on set as painful.
