Netflix will release a seven-episode modern adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden this autumn, although no exact premiere date has been announced. The series is a high-profile reinterpretation of the 1952 novel, led by Florence Pugh, and continues Netflix’s push into prestige adaptations of classic literature.

Pugh plays Cathy Ames, with Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask and Hoon Lee as Lee; the wider cast includes Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton and Ciarán Hinds. Zoe Kazan writes and co-showruns the series with Jeb Stuart, while Garth Davis directs the first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre the final three; filming took place in New Zealand and a teaser was released in May.
