Everything We Know About Universal’s Live-Action ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’

Universal’s live-action How To Train Your Dragon 2 is scheduled for release on 11 June 2027, continuing the studio’s remake of the animated franchise. The sequel’s early approval, announced before the first remake reached cinemas, indicated Universal’s confidence in the reboot and its commercial prospects.

Mason Thames will return as Hiccup alongside Nico Parker, Gerard Butler and several other cast members, while Cate Blanchett will reprise Valka and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson will play villain Drago. Dean DeBlois is returning as writer, director and executive producer, with the story expected to adapt the animated sequel’s exploration of Hiccup’s mother, dragon coexistence and Drago’s control over dragons.
