Kieran Kyle, 43, pleaded guilty to sending offensive communications after allegedly sending racist and threatening emails to Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and her husband, Hamish. A court heard that the messages included threats to shoot Badenoch, leaving the couple distressed and very upset.

Kyle, from Gillingham, described himself as a former IRA soldier and referred to Bloody Sunday in the emails. He was granted bail and will be sentenced on 29 October, with the magistrate warning that imprisonment was possible. The case followed controversy over a Conservative social-media video that mistakenly used footage of Bloody Sunday while criticising proposed Northern Ireland legislation.
