Former Marymede Catholic College sports assistant Andrew Cassar has admitted child sex offences in a Melbourne court and successfully sought permission to live in a Victorian seaside town while on bail. The case has raised concerns among parents and the school community because legal restrictions may prevent the public from learning the full circumstances of the offending.

Cassar was arrested after police attended Marymede’s Doreen campus in March, when he was 24, and was initially charged with sexually penetrating a child under 16. The school told parents he had been directed not to return and said Victoria Police would contact affected people; his bail conditions reportedly include no contact with, or approach to, the child involved.
