Ex-SLIPKNOT Drummer JAY WEINBERG Teams Up With SOFTCULT On New Single ‘Drown Fountain’

Blabbermouth · 2 months ago

Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has released a new collaborative single, "Drown Fountain", featuring the Canadian "grunge-gaze" duo Softcult. The track is a notable departure from his heavy-music roots, swapping powerful percussion for shoegaze, drone and atmospheric textures, and it also marks Weinberg's debut as a vocalist. He described the song, which he began writing in 2013, as his most vulnerable work to date, saying it only came together after he discovered Softcult's music and reached out to collaborate.

"Drown Fountain" is the latest in an ongoing series of one-off, single-song collaborations from Weinberg, following "Sandstone" with Deafheaven's George Clarke and "Drone Operator" with Nowhere2Run (members of Code Orange). Each release explores a distinct sound and features artwork by acclaimed artist Paul Romano (Mastodon, Trivium), with Weinberg assigning a different colour of the rainbow to each collaboration. Separately, Weinberg also plays drums on Massachusetts death-metal and hardcore band Fuming Mouth's new album "The Ringing Bell", produced by Kurt Ballou and due out on 17 July 2026 via Triple B Records.
