A banned driver high on cannabis killed a former soldier when he crashed into the back of his stationary car at 87mph on a Nottingham roundabout in December 2025. Rowan Grant, 34, a disqualified driver with a history of dangerous driving convictions, caused the death of Andrew Lister, 36, and left his partner Laura Whatton with life-changing injuries. The case highlights the dangerous consequences of driving whilst unfit and prohibited from doing so.

Grant had been disqualified since 2011 and suffered from untreated epilepsy, experiencing seizures twice weekly but refusing medication. He was travelling at nearly triple the speed limit when he ploughed into Mr Lister's vehicle whilst attempting to overtake a bus on 9 December 2025. Mr Lister died the following day despite medical efforts, whilst Ms Whatton sustained multiple fractures requiring spinal fusion surgery and weeks of hospitalisation. Grant initially blamed his girlfriend for the crash, falsely claiming she had fled the scene when she was not even present. He was sentenced to ten years imprisonment at Nottingham Crown Court and received a lifetime driving ban. His extensive criminal history includes convictions for robbery, drug offences and controlling behaviour.
