Blaise Taylor, a former Tennessee Titans scout, has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms after being convicted of poisoning his pregnant girlfriend, Jade Benning, with cocaine, killing both her and their unborn daughter. A Davidson County jury rejected his defence that Benning had suffered an allergic reaction, instead finding him guilty on all counts following a 10-day trial in Nashville, in a case that has drawn wide attention because of his prior role in NFL scouting.

Prosecutors said Taylor put a fatal dose of cocaine into Benning's drink at her Nashville apartment on 25 February 2023, then called emergency services and falsely claimed she was having an allergic reaction. Their unborn daughter died two days later, and Benning remained on life support until she died on 6 March 2023, her 25th birthday; toxicology results contradicted Taylor's account and prompted a homicide investigation. The jury convicted him within two hours on second-degree murder, first-degree murder of the unborn child, and two counts of felony murder, and the judge ordered his life sentences to run back-to-back; Taylor's lawyers say they will appeal.
