Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been ordered to undergo a competency evaluation after a chaotic outburst at a Maryland court hearing on attempted murder charges. Ebert accused his defence lawyer of colluding with prosecutors, threatened to sack him, and vowed to bring charges against police officers, prosecutors and defence attorneys involved in the case, prompting his own lawyer to raise "significant concerns" about his mental competency.

Ebert faces a potential life sentence over a March incident in which he allegedly struck William Yates, the 79-year-old father of Turnstile singer Brendan Yates, with a car. He has been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. At the Montgomery County Circuit Court hearing, Ebert insisted he was "perfectly competent" and that the police report was entirely false. Judge Eric Johnson ordered the evaluation ahead of the next hearing on 22 September, with a trial date set for 5 October; Turnstile said they cut ties with Ebert in 2022 after a pattern of harmful behaviour and threats of violence.
