## Key points

- A teenager escaped after an alleged kidnapping and stabbing in Baltimore.
- She reportedly used a fire extinguisher to break free.
- Barrie faces nine charges and is held without bail.

## Summary

A 15-year-old girl escaped from a Baltimore property after allegedly being kidnapped and repeatedly stabbed by Abubakarr Barrie, 23. The case has drawn scrutiny over how Barrie was released from immigration and local custody before the alleged attack, though those claims come from US federal officials.

Charging documents say Barrie drove the girl away from her intended destination, restrained her and took her to a basement room, where she fought back with a fire extinguisher and fled barefoot and without clothes. Police found her injured at about 9.30pm on 22 October; her injuries included a collapsed lung. Barrie faces nine charges, including attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping, and is being held without bail. DHS says he entered the US from Sierra Leone in 2023, was released after a Border Patrol arrest, and was later released following a New York arrest despite an ICE detainer.
