An employment tribunal in Swansea has found that a former sales manager was the victim of workplace discrimination and victimisation after a colleague made sexist remarks during her pregnancy, including telling her that "nobody wants to see a pregnant woman" at work. Jessica Morgan, who worked at wood supplier Panelex Wood Agency, said her close working relationship with colleague Frederick Geraint Hawkes deteriorated once she announced her pregnancy, and she was subsequently barred from visiting clients and pressured to hand back her company car early. The ruling highlights how discriminatory treatment can persist even in small, informal workplaces where staff previously had good relationships.

Ms Morgan, who earned £40,000 a year, said Mr Hawkes also remarked he "wouldn't be making the mistake of hiring a woman again" and told her to "focus on being a mum" while she was on maternity leave. She was informed in October 2024, during a meeting at a Costa Coffee, that her role no longer existed, with Mr Hawkes suggesting her partner earned enough for her to stay at home. Although the tribunal upheld her claims of pregnancy discrimination and victimisation, her wider case was not won in full because it was brought too late; a separate hearing will determine the compensation she is owed.
