Faatili double helps Wakefield end Hull KR’s home run
Wakefield Trinity brought an end to Super League champions Hull KR's 11-game home winning run with a 20-6 victory at Craven Park. It was the first time in more than a year that the Robins had been beaten on their own ground, and the defeat sees them lose further ground in the play-off race after a display their head coach described as "really, really poor".
Harvey Smith's early try set the tone for Trinity, though Tyson Smoothy hit the post with the straightforward conversion. Hull KR's opening was compounded when Peta Hiku was sin-binned for a high tackle, and Rhyse Martin's three penalty goals — his only source of points as Rovers failed to score a try — kept them level at 6-6 by half-time. Caius Faatili then proved decisive off the bench, forcing his way over twice in the second half, with Smoothy adding the conversions and finishing with three goals. Willie Peters said his side needed to be "accountable", pointing to ill discipline and yellow cards rather than refereeing decisions.
